Designated Communities
Illinois Main Street’s designated communities are part of a statewide and national network committed to strengthening historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts through preservation-based economic development. Recognized by Illinois Main Street and Main Street America, Affiliate and Accredited programs demonstrate a commitment to local leadership, community engagement, strategic revitalization, and the proven Main Street Approach to building vibrant, resilient places.
Affiliate programs are actively building local capacity, engaging community stakeholders, and advancing economic, social, physical, and organizational improvements through the Main Street Approach. Accredited status is Main Street America’s highest tier of national recognition.
This designation allows for expanded support, technical assistance and access to grant programs.
