About the Illinois Main Street Conference: Downtown Dialogues

Across Illinois, Main Street districts are centers of economic and social opportunity and essential to a thriving community. From rural downtowns to urban neighborhood corridors, revitalization is powered by dedicated professionals, volunteers, and civic leaders. Join us from March 18 - 20 in Springfield, Illinois, for the 2020 Illinois Main Street Conference: Downtown Dialogues. The conference is an opportunity for all those involved in Illinois commercial districts to learn from experts in the field and each other through best practices and engaged conversation.

Who should attend?

If you’re interested in a healthy, thriving commercial district, this conference is for you. The Illinois Main Street program has a 25 year history of creating prosperity in downtowns, but beyond our membership model, we seek to create awareness of downtown development as a tool for economic impact and community betterment across the state. You should attend the 2020 Illinois Main Street Conference: Downtown Dialogues if you:
  • Are a current staff member or volunteer with a downtown or neighborhood commercial district revitalization program;
  • Hold a position in city or county government in leadership, economic development, planning, tourism, or other related fields;
  • Work in a related industry such as non-profit development, community development, historic preservation and design.
  • Want to learn about the combination community development, historic preservation, and economic development that creates lasting impact in downtowns.

  • In-depth topics such as: supporting entrepreneurs in your district, structuring and funding your revitalization program, creating impact with downtown promotions, and much more!
  • Onboarding and application process for your community to become a member of the Illinois Main Street program.

How can I make the most of it?

  • Join us on Thursday evening after education programming ends for a networking social.
  • Take a tour of Downtown Springfield’s arts programming and partnerships to see how creating culture connects the community.
